With images from many sources we take a stroll through the history of the iconic Butlin’s holiday camps since the 1930s, from the perspective of the holiday maker and an employee. My slides show the wide variety of images available, as we take a look at the story of the humble picture postcard from the 1800s to the present day. What do you know about Hotham Park? It was originally the garden of Sir Richard Hotham, Bognor’s founder, and we will learn of it’s history and uses over the years.

For this talk I bring with me a number of souvenirs that have been collected over the years and look at who made them and the changing styles. With information from many sources we will take a look at the development of our seaside resorts from the 1800s to the present day. What was available to the British holiday maker in the past?
